Position Description

GENERAL SUMMARY

Supervises patient care in both the SCU and MedSurg Inpatient units. Serves as a clinical resource and role model, and extension of management to support organizational policies and best practices

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Considers acuity, staff experience and competency, learning needs, and patient acuity/complexity when considering shift assignments. Supports and mentors charge nurses to do the same.

2. Facilitates timely admissions and discharges to optimize clinical capacity.

3. Participates in performance management of staff members to include coaching, preparation of performance evaluations, and the performance management process. Initiates disciplinary action as appropriate in collaboration with the Director.

4. Addresses conflicts as arise. Assists/mediates to maintain smooth operations of the unit. Involves Department Director or Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) as appropriate.

5. Assists in managing new orientation process and ongoing skills education for all staff.

6. Supports Department Director with staffing schedule and payroll

7. Conducts audits to ensure documentation requirements are being met for safe and quality care to our patients.

8. Performs other duties required or assigned.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Skills and Abilities Specialty certification preferred. Must obtain and maintain clinical competencies within assigned unit. Excellent written, verbal and computer skills required. Demonstrated abilities with problem solving, leadership, communication, fiscal responsibility and teamwork. Ability to work effectively in groups of employees and with patients and patient families is essential. Experience 2 years of progressive responsibility within an acute care setting required Education Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required. Bachelor’s Degree (e.g. BSN, BA, BS) preferred, or completion of degree expected within 36 months of hire. Licensure/Certification • Licensed Registered Nurse in New Hampshire required. • Basic Life Support (BLS) required. • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
